If you want a wireless recovery system that lets you operate your winch from 100 feet away for safety and self-rescue, choose MaySpare 12V; if you need a heavy-duty marine-grade strap engineered specifically to secure a bass boat on a trailer with dual safety hooks, choose Dokili 2. These two products solve entirely different problems, and comparing them directly is like weighing a rope against a wrench. However, for anyone navigating the complexities of towing gear this year, understanding the specific design intent behind each piece of equipment is the only way to make a safe purchase.
• MaySpare 12V: Offers a stable 100-foot signal range and comes with two handsets for redundancy, but it is strictly an electronic controller component, not a physical tie-down or lifting device. Best for off-road vehicle owners needing remote winch operation.
• Dokili 2: Features industrial woven polyester webbing with low stretch and double safety hooks designed for saltwater resistance, but it is a single-use strap without any wireless technology. Best for boat owners requiring a direct replacement for OEM bow straps.
• The Core Difference: One is a wireless switch for a truck winch; the other is a physical strap for a boat trailer.
• Who buys MaySpare: Drivers who value distance and safety while recovering stuck vehicles in mud or snow.
• Who buys Dokili: Anglers and boaters who need a durable, rust-resistant strap to secure their vessel during highway transit and launching.
This unit is built for the person who finds themselves stranded where the terrain is unforgiving. The defining feature here is the 100-foot control range. In a real-world recovery scenario, standing next to a winch cable under tension is dangerous. If a cable snaps or a vehicle shifts unexpectedly, proximity is the enemy. This system allows you to stand well clear of the obstacle, the mud, and the water while maintaining full command of the winch. That distance is not just a convenience; it is a critical safety margin when dealing with high-tension cables on trucks, ATVs, or SUVs.
The package includes two distinct remote controls, which addresses a common logistical headache in group recovery situations. You can assign one handset as the primary controller for the vehicle operator and keep the second as a spare or hand it to a partner who needs to assist from a different vantage point. The hardware itself is compact, measuring roughly 4.7 by 2.2 inches, making it easy to mount or store in a console without taking up excessive space. The red color coding helps you spot the unit quickly in a cluttered dashboard or glove box.
However, this product is not for everyone. If you do not own a winch that utilizes a 5-wire control group or contactor system, this device will not function. It is not a standalone winch; it is an add-on component. You must verify compatibility with brands like Warn, Smittybilt, Ramsey, Superwinch, Gorilla, Bulldog, or Harbor Freight models before purchasing. If your current setup uses a different wiring configuration, this unit is useless to you. Furthermore, if you are looking for a solution to physically pull a boat onto a trailer, this is the wrong tool entirely. It is purely an interface between you and the motorized drum.

While the MaySpare handles the "pulling" decision, the Dokili 2 handles the "holding" reality for boat enthusiasts. This strap is engineered with a very specific purpose: securing the bow of a bass boat to a trailer stand during transport. The design focuses heavily on the harsh realities of the marine environment. Saltwater, UV exposure, and road debris are constant threats to standard nylon straps. This unit counters those threats with ultra-strong industrial woven polyester webbing that resists edge fraying and abrasion. The material choice suggests a focus on longevity in conditions where cheap straps would rot or snap after a season of use.
Safety is the central pillar of this design. Unlike many standard winch straps that rely on a single hook connection, this model features a unique double snap hook configuration. This creates an integrated secondary safety tie-down right out of the box. If the primary connection were to fail—a rare event with quality gear, but a possibility on bumpy highways—the secondary hook remains engaged to prevent the boat from shifting or rolling off the trailer. The hooks themselves are drop-forged and zinc-plated, a specification that directly addresses corrosion resistance in saltwater applications. This is not a generic strap; it is a precision replacement for part number 9642019, fitting trailers from Ranger, Stratos, Triton, Skeeter, Nitro, and Tracker.
The 20-foot length provides ample slack for various trailer setups, allowing for the pre-sewn flat loop on one end to be bolted securely to the winch drum. The inclusion of working gloves in the package is a thoughtful touch, acknowledging that handling heavy-duty metal hooks and tensioned webbing requires protection. This product is ideal for the angler who wants to replace a worn-out OEM strap without hunting down obscure parts. It is designed for quick installation, letting you get back on the water faster. If you are not towing a boat, or if your trailer does not use a 2-inch wide strap, this item will not fit your needs. It is a specialized solution for a specific type of towing.
• Best for Wireless Safety: Choose MaySpare 12V if your priority is controlling a winch from a safe distance of 100 feet to avoid injury from snapping cables or shifting terrain.
• Best for Marine Durability: Choose Dokili 2 if you need a strap that explicitly resists saltwater corrosion, UV rays, and road grime through its zinc-plated hooks and woven polyester construction.
• Best for Redundancy: MaySpare wins with its two-handset design, offering a backup controller immediately, whereas Dokili relies on a single continuous strap with dual hooks for security.
• Best for Boat Trailers: Dokili 2 is the clear winner here; it is sized and shaped specifically for 2-inch bow eye setups on bass boats, while MaySpare has no application in boat trailering.
• Best for Off-Road Recovery: MaySpare 12V is the only viable option for activating a winch on a truck, ATV, or Jeep without leaving the safety zone.
• Best for Direct Replacement: If you have lost or broken the original winch strap on your boat trailer (specifically part 9642019), Dokili 2 is engineered to slot in perfectly.
• Best for Group Operations: MaySpare allows two people to manage the winch remotely from different positions, enhancing coordination during complex recoveries.
• Best for Low Stretch: Dokili 2 offers superior resistance to stretching under load compared to generic webbing, ensuring the boat stays tight against the trailer stand.
I recommend the MaySpare 12V for anyone whose primary goal is safe, long-distance vehicle recovery. The ability to step back 100 feet and still control the winch is a game-changer for off-road driving, turning a potentially dangerous situation into a manageable task. However, I am choosing Dokili 2 for my personal towing needs because I prioritize the integrity of my boat's transport. The double-hook safety system and marine-grade materials give me peace of mind that my investment is secure during highway transit. Both are excellent tools for their specific domains, but if I had to pick one for a towing scenario involving a boat, the Dokili 2 is the non-negotiable choice. Conversely, if I were tackling a muddy trail, the MaySpare would be in my pocket every time.
No, it works only with mainstream brands using a 5-wire control group or contactor system, such as Warn, Smittybilt, and Ramsey. You must check your specific winch model before buying.
Yes, it features a unique dual spring safety snap hook configuration that provides a secondary tie-down, plus it includes a pair of working gloves for installation.
Technically yes, if your boat winch uses a compatible 5-wire system, but the MaySpare is marketed for land-based recovery like trucks and ATVs, whereas the Dokili is a physical strap for securing the boat.
It is crafted from industrial woven polyester with reinforced cross-stitching and zinc-plated hooks, specifically engineered to resist marine saltwater corrosion, rust, and UV damage.
