The film module focuses on a 2019 British comedy-drama film called Blinded by the Light.
The debate module focuses on political ideologies, human rights, and the rule of law.
To provide an optimum outcome, online learning and face-to-face instruction should go half-and-half. For autonomous learning, the materials are most suitable for upper secondary students who have reached EFL level B2.
Our project team decided to experiment with film, to motivate, and with debate, to challenge our students to achieve higher.
Also, to promote greater depth in language learning, we generated soft CLIL online content that supports CALP (Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency) through rich input and cognitively demanding tasks.
Regarding format, we opted for Google Sites as it made our job easier in several ways: online collaboration, flexibility, and practicality.
Altogether, there are three reusable resources: Human Dignity & Freedom; Humanity & Democracy; and Human Rights & The Rule of Law. Each resource stands alone, but we highly recommend covering them in a sequence of three.
It is also possible to do a film module from one resource and a debate module from another. You can also cover specific topics only.
All materials (except for external resources) are carefully collected and adapted to meet our heterogenous student groups' learning needs.
Differentiation in instruction is provided with alternatives between more and less cognitively demanding tasks.
