Mayfield High School is located in beautiful Las Cruces, New Mexico. Las Cruces is the second largest city in New Mexico and is located on the Rio Grande River just north of El Paso, Texas. This area is home to New Mexico State University, White Sands Missile Range , pecan farming and the best green chile in the world. There are four major high schools in the Las Cruces school system: Las Cruces, Mayfield, Organ Mountain, and Centennial.
The Mayfield High School Band and Color Guard is made up of nearly 100 of our finest students. Over 25% of the school's student body participate in the school's various, outstanding, music programs. Mayfield has placed several musicians at All-State and continually receives superior rating at festival. Since scholastic achievement is paramount, the members of the band are expected to maintain high grades. As a result, the grade point average for the members of the band is well above the average for the school.
During the marching season, the band performs at many parades, games and regional competitions. In the recent years, the band has won accolades for its creative and difficult programs. The culmination of 1999 marching season was the appearance of the band in the 2000 Tournament of Roses Parade. Mayfield currently has two concert bands that begin with the conclusion of the marching season. Each of these bands has performed well at various local and regional music festivals and has consistently earned superior ratings.
The band also has Jazz Bands that perform throughout the year at events such as the ROTC Charity Ball.
The Winter Guard was formed 1999 and has performed well both locally and at the Winter Guard International Regionals in Denver, Co. Mayfield’s competitive indoor color guard uses a combination of flags, sabres, mock rifles, and other equipment as well as dance and interpretive movement to create a unique story-telling experience.
The most recent addition to the band is our Winterline. Mayfield’s indoor percussion ensemble consists of a drumline (also known as the battery) and front ensemble (also known as the pit). They combine elements of music, marching, and theater to produce an auditory and visually appealing performance.
Coming together as one unit, the MHS Winter Guard and Winterline form our MPACT standing for "Mayfield Percussion and Color guard Troupe"
