If you want maximum platform width for wide boat hulls or oversized camping gear, choose MAXXHAUL 60; if you need reinforced side rails and a complete accessory kit for securing loose items during travel, choose Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier.
• MAXXHAUL 60: Offers a massive 60-inch width with a lightweight aluminum build, but lacks integrated side rails to prevent small items from rolling off.
• Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier: Features heavy-duty steel construction with high side rails on all four sides and includes a cargo net and straps, though it is slightly narrower.
• Choose MAXXHAUL 60 if you are a boat owner needing extra width to accommodate wide transoms or long kayaks without overhang issues.
• Choose Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier if you prioritize safety features like high walls and included tie-down accessories for mixed loads of luggage and tents.
The MAXXHAUL 60 stands out immediately because of its sheer footprint. At 60 inches long by 22 inches wide, this basket provides a significant amount of flat surface area that many other carriers simply cannot match. This specific dimension is not just about raw numbers; it translates directly to how much gear you can actually fit on the back of your vehicle without stacking items precariously on top of one another.
This carrier is engineered specifically for users who have wide or long items that require unobstructed space. The open basket-style design means there are no vertical barriers to interfere with the length of your cargo. For someone hauling a kayak, a long piece of lumber, or a large cooler, the 22-inch width offers a stable base that feels substantial under load. The 500-pound capacity is robust enough to handle serious hauling needs, provided the weight is distributed evenly across the 60-inch span.
However, the lack of high side rails is a trade-off you must accept. Because the design prioritizes an open, wide platform, smaller items like boxes, bags, or loose camping equipment are at risk of shifting or falling off if they are not strapped down tightly. If you plan to use this carrier primarily for single, large objects that do not slide easily, such as a boat or a rigid tent frame, this design works perfectly. But if your strategy involves throwing multiple duffel bags and soft-sided luggage onto the rack, you will find yourself constantly re-tightening straps to keep everything in place.

The Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier takes a different approach, focusing on containment and security rather than pure width. With dimensions of approximately 53.3 inches by 19.3 inches and a height of 3.9 inches, it creates a defined "box" for your gear. The standout feature here is the heavy-duty tubular steel construction paired with high side rails on all four sides. These rails are not decorative; they serve a functional purpose by creating a barrier that prevents items from sliding off the edges during sudden stops or turns. This makes it a superior choice for travelers who carry a variety of loose items that might otherwise migrate to the center of the platform.
The material choice of powder-coated steel adds a layer of durability and rust resistance, which is critical for outdoor enthusiasts who leave their gear exposed to the elements. The package goes a step further by including essential accessories right out of the box: a cargo net, tie-down straps, and a hitch tightener. Having these tools included means you are ready to secure your load immediately upon installation, without needing to hunt for compatible straps elsewhere.
This carrier is ideal for families going on road trips or campers moving furniture and supplies. The 19.3-inch width is sufficient for most standard vehicles, and the 500-pound load capacity ensures it can handle heavy loads. The inclusion of the cargo net is particularly valuable for covering soft items like sleeping bags or clothing, keeping them dry and preventing wind from catching inside the basket. If your priority is having a secure, contained space where you can toss gear without worrying about it tipping over the edge, the Nanberone design delivers exactly that peace of mind.
• Best for boat owners needing wide transoms → MAXXHAUL 60: The 60x22 inch platform accommodates wider hulls that would overhang significantly on the narrower Nanberone model.
• Best for securing loose luggage and soft gear → Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier: High side rails and the included cargo net keep items from shifting or blowing away.
• Best for lightweight portability → MAXXHAUL 60: The aluminum construction offers a slight edge in weight savings and corrosion resistance without sacrificing strength.
• Best for rust protection and ruggedness → Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier: Heavy-duty steel with powder coating provides a robust shield against road grime and weather.
• Best for immediate setup with accessories → Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier: Comes with a hitch tightener, straps, and net, whereas the MAXXHAUL requires you to source these separately.
• Best for maximizing flat floor space → MAXXHAUL 60: The larger surface area allows for more efficient packing of large, flat items like surfboards or pallets.
• Best for mixed-use versatility → Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier: The combination of side rails and included straps makes it adaptable for both hard and soft cargo types.
• Best for long-term exposure to elements → Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier: The steel construction is designed to withstand harsh conditions, though indoor parking is recommended for optimal longevity.
After weighing the specifications and intended use cases, I would buy the Nanberone Hitch Cargo Carrier for general family travel, but for a boat owner specifically, I recommend the MAXXHAUL 60. The boat owner scenario changes the equation entirely; the extra 7 inches of length and the additional 2.7 inches of width on the MAXXHAUL provide a crucial margin of safety for wide boats that might otherwise hang dangerously over the edges of a standard carrier. However, for everyone else carrying a mix of suitcases, tents, and boxes, the Nanberone's high side rails and included tie-down system offer a safer, more organized solution that reduces the anxiety of shifting cargo on the highway.
Yes, the 60x22 inch aluminum platform provides the necessary width and flat surface area to support wide boat hulls without excessive overhang, making it the preferred choice for marine applications.
Absolutely, the Nanberone package includes a cargo net, tie-down straps, and a hitch tightener, ensuring you have everything needed to secure your gear immediately after installation.
While both are built to last, the Nanberone uses heavy-duty steel with a powder coat finish specifically noted for rust and corrosion protection, whereas the MAXXHAUL relies on aluminum construction.
You can fit standard suitcases, but you will need to rely heavily on your own tie-down straps since the open design lacks the high side rails found on the Nanberone model to contain loose items.
