I am Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. I have a variety of teaching interests, but I mainly teach ethics classes (Intro to Ethics, Contemporary Moral Issues, Environmental Ethics). I also teach a course called World of Ideas (which I love). It focuses on the philosophy and psychology of happiness.

As an undergraduate I attended Knox College. I was captain of the soccer team and just good enough to make the tennis team. I did my graduate work at the University of Cincinnati, where I completed a PhD in Philosophy and a MA in Experimental Psychology. I work primarily in moral psychology, with an emphasis on empathy and shared emotion. You can find links to my most recent work below:

The moral value of feeling-with (2022, Philosophical Studies)

Emotion sharing as empathic (2023, Philosophical Psychology)

How we share emotions (2024, Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences)

I also serve as an Associate Editor for Passion, a journal specializing in the philosophy of emotion.

Outside of philosophy, I play a lot of soccer and tennis. I also watch a ton of sports. I'm a fan of all the WI teams (Bucks, Brewers, Packers), Arsenal, and the US men's and women's national soccer teams. I'm married to Emily, who has been a public elementary school teacher for over a decade now. We love animals. We have a dog named Ernie (pictured on the left) and a cat named Hazel.
