Max Tuerk was a beloved son, brother, friend, and teammate whose life left a lasting impact both on and off the football field. A standout offensive lineman at the University of Southern California (USC), Max was a team captain and All-American known for his leadership, dedication, and heart. In 2016, he was drafted by the San Diego Chargers, achieving his dream of playing in the NFL.
Tragically, Max passed away at the age of 26 in June 2020. After his death, he was diagnosed with Stage 2 Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive brain disease linked to repeated head trauma. His diagnosis highlighted the serious risks football players can face from repeated subconcussive impacts — even without a history of diagnosed concussions.
In honor of Max's legacy, his family founded Max’s March to End CTE, a hike and fundraising event dedicated to raising awareness, supporting research, and advocating for safer sports. Through this movement, they aim to create lasting change in youth and professional sports while honoring Max’s vibrant spirit and passion for life.
Max’s story serves as both a call to action and a tribute — a reminder of the urgent need to protect athletes and the incredible life that inspired this mission.
