Some Frequently Asked Questions

I can't make some meetings. Is that OK?

Of course! Many of us have other obligations and perfect attendance is not required. However keep in mind that we're working as a team and should plan to attend a reasonable number of meetings.

I don't much experience with robotics. Is that OK?

Yes! Our club is focused on constantly learning and we'd be happy to help out new members.

Will we be competing in a team competition?

Yes, we will be participating in the VEX Robotics Competition. More info can be found here and will be shared during meetings.

Will there be tryouts?

No. Everyone will be participating in the Vex team this year. Only a select few will go to the competition, but all members will work on planning and building the robot.

Will this be a similar process to FIRST Lego League robotics?

FLL is a three system approach to robotics. They focus on research, core values, and robotics as well. However, Vex, which is similar to FRC, focuses on primarily a robot aspect. You enjoy the same things that FLL provides; for example, the team is always having fun, and we are always innovating. However, unlike FLL, VEX is more student driven. You may have experienced a lot of parental help during the FLL seasons. This will not be the case with VEX, as our team will be in charge of practically everything.
