Hi, I’m Mauro Viganò!
I’m a postdoc in linguistics and aphasiology at the
Université Côte d’Azur & CNRS BCL, Nice, France.
I’m originally from Bergamo, Italy. I studied Philosophy of Language and Speech and Language Therapy in Milan, where I later worked as a speech therapist in neurorehabilitation. I then moved to Paris to complete a PhD in Linguistics at Structures Formelles du Langage (Université Paris 8 & CNRS). I am currently an IdEx postdoctoral researcher at Bases Corpus Langages in Nice (Université Côte d'Azur & CNRS).
My research sits at the intersection of theoretical linguistics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, and clinical linguistics. I am particularly interested in morphosyntactic processing and its disruption in acquired language disorders such as aphasia. My work combines formal linguistic approaches with experimental methods, mainly from a cross-linguistic and multimodal perspective that also includes sign languages.
More broadly, I am interested in connecting linguistics with real-world applications for language assessment and rehabilitation.
Outside academia, I’m happiest with a backpack, hiking, travelling, and getting lost in new mountains, countries, and cultures. I also care deeply about diversity and inclusion, both in research environments and in everyday life.
