Stratta had detailed income and expense records for every product category and region from 2025 to 2027, but no consolidated way to see profitability across that footprint. Leadership needed two specific indicators, profit and margin percentage, broken down by product and region, in a report simple enough to check from any device and always current, so decisions about where to invest or cut back could be based on actual performance rather than raw, disconnected spreadsheets.
Modeled two source tables: a transactional table of income and expenses by quarter, product type, and region, and a product-category lookup table mapping each product type (Phones, PCs, Music, Apps, TVs, Accessories) into two higher-level categories: Digital and Devices.
Built core DAX measures for profit (income − expenses) and margin (profit as a percentage of income), designed to recalculate correctly at every level of the report, whether filtered to one country, one continent, or the global total.
Broke down region from a single text field into continent and country, enabling both a high-level continent view and a detailed, sortable country-by-country table.
Designed multiple views of the same numbers: a donut chart of profit by continent, a stacked bar chart of profit and margin by year and continent, a line chart trending profit by year, quarter, and continent, a country-level table with conditional-formatted margin, and a map view of profit by country.
Added Year, Product Type, and Product Category slicers so the entire report can be filtered down to any specific combination in a couple of clicks.
Across 2025–2027, Stratta generated $671M in total profit on $3.36bn in income against $2.69bn in expenses, for an overall 19.95% margin. The Americas lead in absolute profit ($263M), just ahead of Asia ($236M), with Europe ($119M) and Africa ($49M) well behind and Oceania a small fraction of the total ($4M). But absolute profit and margin tell different stories: Australia posts the highest margin in the country table at 29.42%, well above larger profit contributors like Canada (20.57%) or China (16.71%) — exactly the kind of gap a single "total profit" number would hide, and the kind of insight this report was built to surface.
