Maureen Burke was born in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. Her parents were both known to perform music off the cuff for friends at the local American Legion or at home in the living room. There was always a lot of music in the house and their love of it was instilled in their seven children who all sing and/or play one or more instruments.
One of her first “gigs” was with her two sisters – they were the official “choir” in their church. It was here that Maureen developed a love and an ear for vocal harmonies. Her professional career began in high school when she joined a local band and it was at this time that she began writing songs.
After preparing for college she had an opportunity to tour the country singing and playing music. This changed the course of her future – she spent the next 25 years in the performing arts while studying music theory, voice, guitar and piano with private teachers in Boston and on Cape Cod.
The high profile nature of performing publicly led her to take martial arts classes for self-defense. She now operates the school "Seven Stars Academy of Martial Arts" in Falmouth, MA. This has been a great compliment to her musical career.
Her music is probably best summed up in this quote “Maureen Burke has delighted audiences from Cape Cod to the Rockie Mountains with her finely crafted original music as well as her powerful interpretations of works by other songwriters. A stunning vocalist, her guitar style is a unique blend drawn from such various influences as folk, fingerpicking styles, blues and light jazz. Maureen is a veteran performer with a reputation for music that has a warmth and energy you won’t be able to forget.”
“Maureen Burke takes her jazz-folk cues from Bonnie Raitt and Nora Jones” - the Boston Globe.
“Maureen is of the "Highest" quality in whatever she does or touches. She has developed to a level of "Mastery" in living, and so couldn't come more highly recommended in whatever capacity of service she appears in!” Michael Oakland, Production/Performance/Composition, Oakland Music
She is a first place winner in the Eventide Arts Festival Songwriting Contest and has been featured in Cape Cod Life Magazine. She has a CD entitled “Break The Silence” and is working on another.
