hello! my name is maura, and I'm so happy you're here.
I’ve always been the friend that makes everyone pause before digging in at a restaurant so I can take a photo of our meal, have bookmarked hundreds of social media posts about the best spots to dine across the globe, and spent my childhood obsessing over shows like top chef and chopped. as a lifelong foodie, I love sharing my passion for food with the people in my life... and strangers on the internet.
I started maura in the city on instagram in 2016, and it was first simply a place for me to post the (excessive amount of) photos I was taking on weekend trips to NYC. I quickly realized that most of the pictures were of food, and decided to embrace this niche when I revamped the account in 2019 as I prepared to head off for college. I spent the last few years documenting my culinary adventures on social media and eating my way through new york, colorado, pennsylvania, and beyond. from baking cakes in my home kitchen during the pandemic, to eating dollar pizza slices on the streets of NYC, to devouring platters of steak frites in paris, it has been a truly amazing ride.
I'm a recent graduate of st. john's university, where I studied public relations and hospitality management. I was heavily involved on my campus with a variety of organizations, including spoon university, the chappell players theatre group, student ambassadors, and the public relations student society of america. one of my proudest accomplishments to date is having spent 2 years working in a theatrical press office and making my broadway debut while at school! after completing my degree in the spring of 2023, I moved across the country to los angeles for my next big adventure, and am fulfilling my dream of working for disney.
moving forward, this blog will be an extension of my existing instagram page. I'm excited to dive deeper into some of my food-focused experiences and bring you along with me as I reflect on many culinary highlights from the last few years, while exploring the food scene in my new city! you can also expect to see entries about my favorite foods at disneyland, the best items at trader joe's, my immense enthusiasm when it comes to the topic of baked goods (specifically, croissants), and a restaurant repeat series where I discuss the spots I keep coming back to for more. thanks for following along!
