Lesson Information

Interested in improving your skills?

I love teaching trumpet to interested students and I am more than willing to take on some new students at this time. Whether you are looking for long-term lessons, or even just a short period of time to help you prep for auditions or a recital, I'm more than willing to work out something with you so that you can experience success in your musical endeavors.

Prerequisites for potential students:

    • A great attitude and willingness to learn!
    • Your own trumpet and relevant accessories (mouthpiece, valve oil, slide grease, etc.)
    • I take all experience levels. Whether it's your 2nd day or your 5th year on the instrument, you're all welcome.
    • Access to the following methods (print copy if you can, but you can find PDF's if you need to)
      • Getchell - 1st book of practical studies for Cornet or Trumpet
      • Arban - Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet
      • Clarke - Technical Studies for Cornet
      • Schlossberg - Daily Drills and Technical Studies for Trumpet
      • You can access my kit page here for these books: https://kit.co/mitchota
    • Zoom or Skype preferably if you want to do lessons online.
    • Paypal for sending me payment.

Online Lessons?

Yes, online lessons. With our current technology, there is nothing stopping you from doing lessons online. I've been teaching online for a few years and I love the convenience teaching online offers all of you. The only real deterrents to doing lessons online are the quality of your internet connection and computer, and also dealing with the time difference. Since I am based in Hawaii (GMT -10), we will have to work out the best time, however, it is not an insurmountable challenge. Contact me so we can get set up!

Since I am a PC/Linux user primarily, I use the following teleconferencing options for lessons, listed in my order of preference:

All of these apps are available for free, are widely used, and easy to set up.

Technical considerations for doing online lessons:

    • Be sure your internet connection is reliable.
    • If you can get a better quality mic, that's helpful, but not necessary.
    • Make sure you set up your camera in a way so that I can get a pretty good view of your face and upper body - posture and ergonomics are important!

If this sounds interesting to you, drop me a message, and let's get set up for lessons! I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your musical goals!
