Summary: Create eLearning resources on various topics of interest to budding tinkerers and innovators in the ATL.
Need #1: Mentoring often involves repeating the same information or instructions with different batch of students at the ATL. Students also forget the information and instructions given to them and ask for it to be repeated again and again. In both these cases, there is a need to avoid repetition so that the mentoring effort can be optimized.
Need #2: Tinkering & innovation is not just restricted to the ATL. Often times, students need to learn things on their own and at home before they visit the ATL. Students need self-learning resources or tutorials that they can refer to at any time, on any day and from anywhere.
Need #3: Much of the knowledge gained by student tinkerers & innovators at the ATL remain with them, unless shared with others. When know-how is not shared widely with their peers, everyone has to learn things the hard way, often taking more time. There is a need to widely share knowledge gained by students with fellow tinkerers at the ATL.
Develop eLearning resources and self-learning tutorials on a variety of topics & formats and make them available to ATL students on an online repository. Both mentors and students can contribute to the development of eLearning resource & tutorials.
This way, mentors don't have to repeat the information every time. Students can refer to the learning content made available online and learn things at their own pace.
The eLearning resources & self-learning tutorials bring tremendous flexibility & convenience to students as they can refer to them from anywhere (at the ATL, or from home), at any time (even after-school hours), and on any day (including holidays).
Students also become more productive as they have learning content at their finger-tips. It also reduces dependence of ATL students on Mentors and the ATL in-charge. In addition, if students are given to opportunity to create eLearning resources on their own, it makes it possible to share their knowledge with their peers better.
