I'm Matty, and I've been passionately drumming for over a decade. Throughout this time, I've had the privilege of performing in various gigs as a solo artist and with bands, lending my skills to artists' recordings, and successfully completing graded exams in drumming, culminating in my achievement of Grade 8. Most notably, I recently graduated with a First Class Degree in Music Performance, demonstrating my thorough understanding of the technical and expressive aspects of drumming.
My journey into the world of drumming started at a young age, and it played a pivotal role in transforming my life. Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) early on, I faced challenges academically and socially. However, my parents noticed my rhythmic tendencies as I instinctively tapped my fingers and feet in time to songs. With their unwavering support and a few initial drum lessons, I was hooked. The rhythmic essence of drumming, akin to conducting a percussive orchestra, ignited a profound sense of excitement and joy that had previously eluded me.Â
Drumming quickly became a second language, providing me with a means to harness my focus and creativity, offering an outlet within my control. Furthermore, drumming significantly contributed to my emotional regulation and facilitated a form of musical communication, allowing me to connect with both myself and those around me. Through this art form, I've grown into a more confident individual than I ever thought possible, and I aspire to impart that same confidence to those who choose to learn from me.
