Matt & Laura's began as Laura's Shaved Ice food trailer in June 2022, created to help manage personal finances while Laura was pregnant and unable to work long shifts at the hospital as a respiratory therapist and nurse. After welcoming their new addition to the family of four, Laura found herself growing tired of the constant prep work for the food trailer. This led to their journey towards a fixed location in an old doctor’s office building that they rented.
By April 2024, they took a significant step by purchasing a vacant lot across from the city park. They transitioned into an LLC partnership, enabling them to streamline operations and concentrate on what mattered—serving their community. As the seasons changed, so did their plans, and in June 2024, the lot was officially rezoned from residential to commercial.
They faced challenges in finding a design for a small building that would elevate their dining experience, but the anticipation of the new kitchen—where the magic would truly begin—filled them with energy.
Matt and Laura strategically acquired equipment that would enable them to craft everything from homemade dishes to burgers and fries, shakes, soft serve ice cream, and the fluffiest shaved ice. Each day, they envisioned a vibrant community space, one that was more than just a restaurant; it would be a home away from home where everyone could enjoy quality food and treats. They pictured laughter, celebrations, and connections built through the simple joy of sharing a meal.
As construction progressed, Matt and Laura dedicated themselves alongside family members to work with contractors, all while continuing to serve their loyal customers from the food trailer where it all began. The evolution from a small food trailer to a growing restaurant story was marked by hard work, determination, and a steadfast belief in their vision. In the heart of Arma, as the new building took shape, it became evident that Matt and Laura’s Restaurant was not merely about food; it was about fostering connections and community spirit with freshly made meals, delightful ice cream, and, of course, their beloved shaved ice treats
