Welcome !

I am currently a Lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland Valais-Wallis, School of Engineering, in Sion, as well as at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Fribourg.

In  2022, I was awarded the Prix Enseignement from the University of Fribourg, as well as, in 2021, the Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching at the HES-SO Valais.

In September 2022, I obtained a DAS in Tertiary Didactics and Education Technology at the Did@cTICS center at UniFR, with a DAS thesis entitled Git Gud.

From January 2016 to June 2017, I was a Visiting Scholar and Visiting Assistant Professor at the Mathematics Department of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Before that, I completed my PhD under the supervision of Ruth Kellerhals at the Département de Mathématiques of the University of Fribourg, where I studied mathematics and philosophy.

My research originally dealt with discrete and non-euclidean geometries in a broad sense.  This includes the study of  hyperbolic polyhedra and their invariants (combinatorics, inradius, volume, etc) and Coxeter groups.
In more recent projects, I also explored applications of geometry (euclidean or non-euclidean) and combinatorics, for instance to complex networks (electrical networks, foodwebs, etc), or to (computational) social sciences.

A good portion of my current activities has to do with math education and outreach. An avid gamer in a broad sense (board games, video games, escape games, etc) and pop culture fan, I enjoy using and exploring gamification and storytelling in this context. In my spare time, I also design escape games / treasure hunts (see the Games section).
I believe that STEM disciplines help us articulate arguments consistently, engage in critical debates and illustrate the incredibly powerful tools that math (and more generally, science) can provide in order to understand the world we live in. I am always happy to talk about math and science, in classrooms and beyond.

Fun facts:
- In 2019, together with two colleagues from the HES-SO Valais, we deciphered a letter written in 1520 to the bishop of Sion Mathieu Schiner.
- Also in 2019, I passed the "LHR/GBB exam", allowing me to run a hotel or a restaurant.
