I'm an economist interested in agricultural policy and production topics. This site exists to serve as a location for making my research and writing publicly available, as well as summarizing my interests and experience in hopes of connecting with those with similar professional interests. I'm an assistant professor of agricultural policy at North Dakota State University and serve as the Assistant Director of the Center for Agricultural Policy and Trade Studies. Send me an e-mail (matthew.gammans[at]ndsu.edu) and let's chat!
I previously worked at Isometric, a start-up formed for the purpose of restoring trust in carbon markets. I worked on developing protocols that ensure accurate carbon accounting across a wide range of carbon removal technologies: bio-energy with carbon capture (BECCS), biochar, and bio-oil injection.
Current working papers and research in progress study the effect of agricultural policy on the choice to adopt conservation practices, the acreage response of winter wheat-soybean double cropping to commodity prices, and the ability of statistical methods to generate accurate estimates of climate change impacts on agricultural production and trade.
