Matthew Galinn is an award-winning composer, pianist, saxophonist, and music educator based in Baltimore, Maryland. Galinn has been commissioned by institutions such as Towson University and regularly collaborates with soloists and chamber ensembles throughout the east coast such as pianist Christopher Dillon, Eighth Blackbird, the Strata piano trio, Fifth House Ensemble, Anima Brass, and the Hippocrene Saxophone Quartet. In his music, Galinn seeks to create a highly developed and self-consistent tonal language that does not rely on traditional harmonic relationships. His works explore novel systems of tonal organization built on non-conventional intervallic relationships. Galinn specializes in composing for chamber ensembles and solo piano. Compositions which explore the synesthetic relationship between different artistic disciplines are a recurring theme in Galinn’s portfolio. In addition to his compositional activities, Galinn currently serves as a high school band and orchestra director within the Baltimore County Public School System.
