I am Assistant Professor of Comedic Studies at Emerson College, where I teach the history and theory of comedy. 

As a researcher, I study the history of clowning and migration. I have authored two books and over a dozen peer-reviewed articles in Theatre Topics, Theatre Survey, Theatre History Studies, Comedy Studies, Nineteenth Century Theatre and Film, etc. 

As a professional dramaturg, I specialize in adaptation and new works. I have worked for such theatre companies as the San Diego Repertory Theatre, the Atlantic Theatre Company, the Indiana Repertory Theatre, Theatreworks, Chorus pro Musica, and the Boston-based movement company Imaginary Beasts.

I am also a performer with over twenty-five years and thousands of hours of public speaking experience. Currently, I'm a resident cast member at Union Comedy in Somerville, MA, where I perform weekly with the longform improv team Neighbors. 

Using this background, I lead applied improvisation workshops all across New England for a range of professionals, including lawyers, engineers, health workers, scientists, librarians, and academics.
