Hello! My name is Matthew Espinosa, and I am a graduate student in the Department of Psychology at Texas Christian University. My current research draws from an evolutionary and existential psychological framework to further our understanding how interpersonal and ecological threats affect our evaluations of and interactions with social partners. I am especially interested in understanding how social threats, such as rejection and isolation, contribute to the progression and quality of one’s close relationships and physical wellbeing, particularly among individuals from underrepresented and marginalized groups. While I have a wide variety of research interests, I tend to gravitate towards research questions on topics related to both interpersonal and existential isolation, early life stress, intimate/romantic relationships, and intergroup processes.
My hobbies include reading graphic novels, going outside and running until I get too tired (so about 5 minutes), listening to the latest science or crime podcasts, and stress baking (ask me about my banana bread). I'm always open to learning about new and exciting topics, so please go to the "contact me" section to get in touch!
