Matters Macro

Jagjit S. Chadha's Homepage

Welcome to my personal homepage where you can find out about my research, thoughts and commentaries.

I mostly write about macroeconomic problems but am very interested in the micro-underpinnings. This can involve thinking about the problems faced by different types of household or the distributional implications of policy.

My primary set of interests are in the development of monetary and financial systems and their role in regulating demand, both as public goods but also as means for the private sector to thrive. The relationship with policymakers is, of course, critical in all this.

Where to start? It was all pretty much sketched out with the monetary and fiscal responses to the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. See, for example, Ralph Hawtrey writing at the end of WW1 on the Bank Restriction of 1797. The issues of co-ordination, complementarity, stabilisation and institutional design within a democracy are constant concerns.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you wish to discuss any aspect of my work or yours.
