The Medical Education Clinical Scholars Program is a two year certificate program offered to residents and fellows who have demonstrated an interest in medical education. This program provides training in adult educational theory, trainee assessment, educational research, and curriculum design through a series of workshops, lectures, reviews of the medical education literature, and a robust reading list. Graduates of this program must complete a series of directly observed teaching sessions and develop a catalog of peer and faculty feedback regarding their teaching skills. As my capstone project for this program I developed a validated assessment checklist for the performance of trauma ultrasound which was presented at ACEP 2020, the country's largest academic conference in Emergency Medicine. I hope this program acts a stepping stone on the lifelong journey to hone my abilities as a medical educator. You can read more about the Clinical Scholars program here.
The Academy for Quality and Safety Improvement (AQSI) is a professional development program centered on formal training in Quality Improvement principles. As part of this project, I worked with a team of hospitalists, cardiology fellows, and a fellow emergency medicine resident to create interventions to decrease the unnecessary utilization of inpatient echocardiograms across the entire Northwestern Medicine system. After a dozen classroom sessions, multiple feedback meetings with faculty members, and extensive patient data acquisition, our team was able to create an EMR based intervention to better track echocardiogram orders and promote best practices as well as an educational intervention regarding evidence based echocardiogram utilization. Feinberg Academy of Medical Educators (FAME) : Resident Inductee 2020
FAME seeks to recognize faculty, residents, and fellows across the Feinberg School of Medicine for their contributions to the medical education. The program provides monthly lectures, faculty development workshops, and a network of like-minded colleagues to promote best practices and innovation in education. Resident and fellow inductees to FAME are given the designation "Almost FAME-ous" and I was proud to join these ranks in 2020 as recognition for my educational efforts within the medical school and residency program.
