Matt Fenner is a finance and operations executive with more than 30 years of experience helping entrepreneurs, operators, and investors build businesses that grow and create lasting value. Based in Jacksonville, Florida, his career has spanned startups, family-owned companies, and large public enterprises, with deep expertise in financial strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and operational execution.
Matt currently serves as COO of Caplin Ventures, a Jacksonville-based investment firm he helped launch in 2019. The firm has grown steadily since its founding and today includes 10 operating companies and more than 20 passive investments across industries, including healthcare staffing, technology services, engineering, dentistry, medical research, retail, and professional sports. Together, the businesses in Caplin's portfolio employ more than 1,000 people and represent Matt's ongoing commitment to building organizations that deliver real, sustainable value.
Earlier in his career, Matt was part of the senior leadership team at Scott Alarm, helping grow the company into one of the largest privately held alarm security businesses in the United States. Scott Alarm was later acquired by Republic Industries, and Matt joined the Republic team as an executive leader on its mergers and acquisitions group. Working alongside entrepreneur H. Wayne Huizenga in that environment gave Matt direct exposure to acquisition strategy and value creation at a significant scale.
Matt subsequently became CFO and startup equity partner of Indian Motorcycles Florida, LLC, overseeing multiple retail locations throughout Florida with more than 50 million dollars in combined annual revenue. He also served as a senior financial executive at Convergys Corporation, then among the world's largest business process outsourcing companies, leading the financial operations of a division with approximately 17,000 employees and roughly 800 million dollars in annual revenue.
His experience includes guiding several micro-cap businesses through growth and successful exits. As CFO of Certified Security, a Florida-based alarm and fire security company serving more than 20,000 residential and commercial customers, Matt helped position the business for its sale to Vector Security. That transaction was recognized for producing one of the strongest valuation multiples in the security industry at the time.
Matt holds an MBA in Finance and a BBA in Accounting from the University of North Florida. His work has always been guided by a consistent set of principles: strong leadership, disciplined financial management, operational focus, and a commitment to building businesses that create long-term value for their employees, customers, and investors.
