Operating within a network environment is very different than operating within a traditional organization. If you come from a traditional setting tell yourself that you will fell like an immigrant in a new country for the first few months, before you understand how to navigate and operate within this network environment. Fortunately, there are people within this network that are willing to orient you around. So don't be shy to ask questions.
First, tell yourself you are in a new environment.
Second, get acquainted with the tools this network uses. You do that by exploring the homepage of this website.
Stigmergy is a consensus mechanism of indirect coordination, through the environment, between agents or actions. The principle is that the trace left in the environment by an action stimulates the performance of a next action, by the same or a different agent. ... Stigmergy is a form of self-organization. See Wikipedia.
If you take an initiative,
No one! But in any action there is someone better equipped than anyone else to take the lead, for a particular action. You need to be able recognize that and voluntary subordinate yourself to this person's initiatives if they make sense and if they are within the rules of the network. Economic networks are meritocratic systems, i.e. we follow those who can do better than us, in order to diminish the probability of making costly mistakes and increase the probability of generating benefits.
Your work is transparent, you always leave traces of your activities. Your work is subject to peer review. Your reputation within the network and your ability to extract value from it is directly linked to the appreciation of your peers.
