Matilda Orth is Associate Professor at the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN) and Docent of Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Her research fields are Empirical Industrial Organization and Applied Microeconomics.

Her research focuses on demand, productivity, entry/exit and the evolution of market structure. Current projects explore investment in digital infrastructure, innovations and exporting, product variety and consequences of entry reforms. Her work has been published in journals such as Journal of the European Economic Association, International Economic Review and Journal of Industrial Economics.

Since 2013, she is course director and visiting lecturer at the Stockholm School of Economics. She has a comprehensive teaching portfolio spanning from undergraduate to the Ph.D. level. For several cohorts, she served as the course director of Industrial Organization at the Master program in economics. Leading ten cohorts to date, she is currently course director of Microeconomics at the Bachelor program in retail management. 

She serves as an economic expert judge at the Patent and Market Court of Appeal and the Swedish Administrative Court. In addition, she acts as an advisor and expert in legal proceedings. She has authored numerous popular science reports addressing a wide range of topics and industries.

Her experience also includes serving as principal investigator for research projects funded by Swedish Competition Authority, the Kamprad Family Foundation, Formas, Johan and Jakob Söderberg Foundation, the Swedish Retail and Wholesale Council and Torsten Söderberg Foundation
