Course Information

Rationale:

The students who study Mathematics in Trade pathway could benefit themselves when preparing for an apprenticeship entry assessment, and/or improve their mathematics, numeracy and financial literacy skills in Stage 5. Successful students of this pathway are able to achieve all the learning outcomes of 5.1 outcomes and some 5.2 outcomes of NSW K-10 Mathematics Syllabus, Australian Core Skilled Framework (Level 3 and 4), and essential financial literacy and small business management skills.

Aim:

The content in this pathway is aimed at the level that is needed for students to have the best possibility of improving their mathematics and numeracy skills specifically for trades. Students of Mathematics in Trade pathway are able to apply their mathematics and numeracy knowledge and skills in a real-world context. Students have opportunities to improve their overall numeracy performance which will be benchmarked by NAPLAN and Australian Core Skilled Framework.

Pathway Structure:

The Mathematics in Trade pathway comprises 6 core modules. In addition, schools are able to select from 4 optional modules to develop programs that respond to student needs and interests. Mathematics in Trade pathway should be implemented as a two year continuum with 200 indicative hours for Core Module 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 80 hours 4 Optional Modules.

Appropriate use of this pathway

The collection of suggested scopes and sequences, units of work, sample assessment tasks and other resources are made available to support MITP teachers and students. Nonetheless, it is an individual school's responsibility to monitor the compliance with the requirements for registration as published in the relevant NESA registration manuals.

The school that adopts the pathway should publicly acknowledge that all MITP related resources have been developed by Apprenticeship Engagement Forun and its partner schools.
