The department of mathematics had a humble beginning. The official strength of the department during its start in 1982 was one. The Head of the department was Dr. R. C. Pandey. Some part time teachers also lent a helping hand to the department. Dr. Amit Sachdeva from 2001 to 2005 and  Shri Mukesh Tripathi  from 2016 to October 2020. Post graduate course in Mathematics started in 2006. In 1999, Dr. H. S. Nayal take the charge of the Head of department till 2016. From 2016 to June 2019 Dr. R. S. Mishra was the Head of Department. From July 2019, Dr. G. S. Negi is going to carry on this job. Dr. Shankar Kumar also joined this department on 09 August 2019. Dr. C.S. Pant joined the department in 2022.
