Privacy Policy — Maths Machine
Effective: 26 September 2026
Maths Machine is a lesson app used by students of a Combined Mathematics tutoring service to watch assigned video lessons, track their progress, and keep notes. This policy explains what information the app handles and why.
Short version: we collect only what's needed to run your account — your notes, your watch progress, and a device identifier for account security. We don't run ads, we don't use analytics trackers, and we never sell or share your data.
1. Who this is for
Maths Machine accounts are created by a tutor or administrator for their students — there is no public sign-up inside the app. If you're using the app, it's because your tutor set up an account for you and granted you access to specific lessons. If you'd like an account, contact your tutor directly rather than looking for a registration screen — there isn't one.
2. What we collect
Notes — any text you write in the notes feature. Saved so it's available to you across sessions.
Watch progress — which lessons you've opened and how far you've watched. Used to show completion status and resume playback.
Device identifier — an identifier for the phone or tablet you sign in on. Each account is limited to one active device at a time, to prevent unauthorised sharing of tutoring content.
Push notification token — an identifier issued by Apple or Google for your device. Used to notify you when a new lesson is published, if you allow notifications.
We don't require or collect your real name, email address, or payment details inside the app.
3. How we use it
Operating your account — signing you in, showing you the lessons you've been granted access to.
Saving your notes — so anything you write while watching a lesson is there when you come back.
Tracking progress — so the app can show completion rings and resume a lesson where you left off.
Account security — the device identifier enforces one active sign-in per account.
Lesson notifications — an optional push notification when your tutor publishes a new video, only if you've allowed notifications.
4. What we don't do
No advertising. The app has no ad network integrated, and nothing you do is used to build an advertising profile.
No analytics trackers. We don't run third-party analytics SDKs that track your behaviour.
No selling or sharing. We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
No cross-app tracking. Nothing in this app tracks you across other apps or websites.
5. Third-party services
YouTube. Some lessons are hosted and played back via YouTube's embedded player. When you play one of these, Google's own privacy policy governs that playback.
Push notification delivery (Apple / Google / Expo). Used solely to deliver the lesson-published notification described above.
6. Retention & deletion
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active with your tutoring service. If you'd like your account or data deleted, contact your tutor or administrator, or email us directly — we'll action the request without requiring you to explain why.
7. Children's privacy
Maths Machine is used within an existing tutoring relationship: accounts are provisioned by a tutor or administrator, not created independently by a child through the app. If you're a parent or guardian with questions about a student's account, please contact the tutoring service directly, or reach us at the email below.
8. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information described above, including restricting access to it and enforcing single-device sign-in on student accounts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but protecting your information is something we take seriously.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage checking back occasionally if you have concerns about how your information is handled.
