I defended my thesis, Environmental Inequalities: Three Essays on Environmental Justice, on October 24, 2025 at the University of Marie et Louis Pasteur. (CRESE)
Abstract: In a context where disadvantaged households are overrepresented near environmental hazards, and given the related health and economic consequences, my thesis examines the mechanisms underlying this pattern. I adopt an applied economics approach structured around three essays on environmental justice. First, I analyze whether environmental degradation is associated with changes in the socio-economic composition of poor households in France, focusing on the coming to the nuisance phenomenon. Second, I study whether social housing construction near polluting sites contributes to the overexposure of poor households. Finally, I examine whether neighborhoods’ income structure varies with access to environmental amenities, and assess whether these amenities alter the distribution of income when polluting sites are also present.
