My teaching philosophy: I believe everyone can do math. I believe those who are struggling need to build their confidence while also refining their skills. I encourage students to try the problems, talking through them with me at their side. I ask leading questions instead of telling them what to do when trying to relearn. I believe after repeated practice and success, students can learn how to help themselves through challenging situations.
I believe all people have different strengths, and I love to help students see that they can master the math they face.
Professional: I have been a 7 through 12th grade math teacher in Cincinnati Public Schools since 2002 while residing in Ohio. While teaching in CPS, I taught Pre-Algebra through Pre-Calculus. In these classes, I had the privilege of working with a wide variety and ability level of students. I have worked with students who have IEP's and 504 plans for their individual needs including gifted. I prefer to work in person as a teacher, although during Covid, in 2020-2021, I did learn some new strategies for working with students virtually in a successful way.
Baltimore County Public School District Substitute Teacher: (2022-2024) This means I have had a background check and have been hired by BCPS to work with students in the classroom.
Personal: My family and I like to spend time outside, playing sports, hiking, and running with our boxer. In August of 2021 our family moved to Baltimore, MD where I focus my days on supporting my family, and evenings helping students with math.
Volunteer: While my children attended elementary school, I volunteered to help students in their school with math. We worked together in person and virtually.
