Dyscalculia is a disability where the brain cannot easily understand math. About 6% of learners have it. These learners have average or above average intelligence, but struggle to learn math.
The part of their brain that handles math and numbers does not work the same as a person without dyscalculia. So, learning math requires special training and special approaches.
Many people with dyscalculia also have other learning difficulties such as dyslexia (reading disability) or dyspraxia (language disability) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
