As transcribed beginning on page 1104, the Will of Peter Apfel lists a daughter named "Mary Matthews", third among his four daughters, and names his wife, Catherine and "his Good & Trusty Friend Henry Matthews" as Executrix and Executor, respectively . However, on page 1107, the third daughter of this couple is identified as "Maria Catherine Apple (Maria Magdalena Apple in Apple's Church Records)", and described as having married "Conrad Matthias", (Henry's younger brother), per "family tradition". She is further described as having "died March 28, 1829 Thurmont, Maryland" per Apple's Church Cemetery Records.
The association of this individual with Conrad Matthias is actually incorrect, as his wife is believed to have been Mary Magdalena Weller. She was buried in Bardstown, Nelson County, Kentucky, where he migrated after the death of his mother. Her grave marker's inscription, "Mary Magdalena Mathes, Late Consort of Conrad Mathes, born Sep' 19 1750" definitively contradicts this particular "family tradition", while the naming of Henry Matthews as the Executor of Peter Apple's Will would seem to suggest that his third daughter was actually married to him.
