BIOGRAPHY SKETCH

OLANIYAN, Mathew Folaranmi, is a Professor of Medical Laboratory Science with bias in Chemical pathology and Immunology, appointed in 2018 in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Faculty of Applied Health sciences, Edo State University Uzairue, Edo State- Nigeria. (EDSU). Delivered 5th inaugural lecture Series   of EDSU (7th December, 2022). Currently Director of Quality Assurance, EDSU (2023 – Date).  He was Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (2019 - 2023) and Head of Department (2017 - 2019), successfully supervised 8 MSc and 3 PhD  works.    Currently, supervising 7 PhD works. He holds a PhD of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso (awarded 2009), PGDE (University of Ibadan, 2003 )   MSc (Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, 2002), AIMLT(School of Medical Laboratory Technology, UCH, Ibadan,  1995). a.   Dynamics of hepatitis B virus infection, immune responses, and transmission risk : Elucidation of the prevalence and associations of HBeAg seronegativity, anti-HBe, and HBV DNA in young adults, providing valuable insights into the dynamics of hepatitis B virus infection, immune responses, and transmission risk, thereby informing clinical management and public health strategies for mitigating HBV transmission and reducing the burden of liver disease.

b.  Plasma-Derived Medicinal Products (PDMPs) :  Provided information on plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) recognizing the importance  in  the treatment of  various medical conditions in Nigeria, including bleeding disorders, immunodeficiencies, and infectious diseases, as well as the identification of research gaps in their use, such as safety and efficacy in special populations, long-term safety and efficacy, and cost-effectiveness, emphasizing the need to increase awareness, improve access, and address these research gaps to ensure the safe and effective treatment of patients.

c.   Exosomes as emerging biomarkers unveiling cellular  Mysteries : The information provided contributes to knowledge by highlighting the emerging role of exosomes as crucial mediators of intercellular communication and disease, particularly as potential diagnostic and prognostic markers for various diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, and autoimmune diseases. This recognition of exosomes' multifaceted roles offers insights into cellular processes, immunity, and regeneration, and their potential use in personalized medicine and biomedical research, while also emphasizing the need to address research gaps and standardize exosome analyses.

d.  Revolutionary Unveiling of Anti-Measles Immunoglobulin G in Blood Donors: A groundbreaking revelation has surfaced, revealing the presence of anti-measles Immunoglobulin G within the blood donor population. This discovery holds immense promise in offering prophylactic and therapeutic solutions for those afflicted by measles or susceptible to its contraction. By opening up innovative avenues, this breakthrough brings about a transformative approach to battling measles and safeguarding the vulnerable segments of society.

e.   Exploration of Extraordinary Attributes in Plant Extracts: A notable achievement comes in the form of the identification of plant extracts that exhibit extraordinary attributes as antitoxins and antidotes. Moreover, these extracts showcase effectiveness as anti-plasmodia agents, combating parasites responsible for malaria. The extracts also display antioxidant, hematinic, anti-inflammatory, glucose-lowering, and cholesterol-lowering properties. g.  Inflammatory Responses and Viral Seromarkers Nexus: Pioneering insights have been provided into the realm of inflammatory responses, intricately intertwined with the expression of viral seromarkers across diverse social and medical contexts. h.  Maternal-Child Viral Seromarker Dynamics Unveiled: A significant contribution is the unveiling of insights into the dynamic interplay between viral seromarkers in children and the serologic profile of their mothers. 1.  Dynamics of hepatitis B virus infection, immune responses, and transmission risk : Elucidation of the prevalence and associations of HBeAg seronegativity, anti-HBe, and HBV DNA in young adults, providing valuable insights into the dynamics of hepatitis B virus infection, immune responses, and transmission risk, thereby informing clinical management and public health strategies for mitigating HBV transmission and reducing the burden of liver disease.

2.  Plasma-Derived Medicinal Products (PDMPs) :  Provided information on plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) recognizing the importance  in  the treatment of  various medical conditions in Nigeria, including bleeding disorders, immunodeficiencies, and infectious diseases, as well as the identification of research gaps in their use, such as safety and efficacy in special populations, long-term safety and efficacy, and cost-effectiveness, emphasizing the need to increase awareness, improve access, and address these research gaps to ensure the safe and effective treatment of patients.
