About me

Jose A. Garcia

My name is Jose A. Garcia and I teach 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th grades Mathematics (Geometry, Algebra II and Precalculus) and 11th and 12th grades Physics at SER-Niños High School. I am certified K to 4th grades Bilingual, 4th to 12th grades Mathematics and ESL teacher. I graduated in 1980 from Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (currently Saint Petersburg), Russia, with a bachelor's in electrical engineering and in 1989 with a master's in economics. I also have a Ph. D in Economics and a bachelor's in Judicial Law from educational institutions in Cuba.

 Currently, I am in my twentieth-year teaching in United States, most of them at SER-Niños Charter School. I love to teach, and I am excited for the opportunity to pursue it at a higher level.  One of my most important achievements is when I can tell that I have developed a love of learning Methematics in students.

I deeply believe in several core values: every child is important and unique, collaborative spirit, limitless curiosity, and moral integrity.  I strive to implement all of these values in my classroom every day a create a positive learning environment.

My goal is to provide a solid and extensive foundation in Mathematics,  with emphasis in reasoning, problem solving and logical thinking, that will help our students to succeed in their path to higher education and life.

Mi nombre es José A García y enseño Matemáticas en 9no, 10mo, 11no y 12mo grados en la Escuela Secundaria SER Niños. Estoy certificado en Educacion Bilingue desde Kinder hasta 4to Grado, Matemáticas desde 4to hasta 12vo Grado e Inglés como Segundo Idioma. Me gradué en el año 1980 como Ingeniero Eléctrico y obtuve un Master en Economía en 1989 en el Instituto Politécnico de Leningrado (hoy Saint Petersburgo) en Rusia. Tambien tengo un Doctorado en Economía y una Licenciatura en Derecho obtenidos en instituciones educacionales en Cuba.

Actualmente estoy en mi veinteavo año enseñando en Estados Unidos, la mayor parte de ellos en la escuela SER-Niños. Me gusta enseñar y estoy motivado por la oportunidad de hacerlo con un nivel elevado. Uno de mis más importantes logros es cuando puedo decir que he desarrollado el amor al estudio de las Matemáticas en los alumnos.

Creo profundamente en algunos valores fundamentales: cada niño es importante y único, el espíitu de colaboración, la curiosidad sin límites y la integridad moral.

Mi objetivo es crear una sólida y extensa base en  Matemáticas, con enfásis en el razonamiento, resolución de problemas y lógica, lo que ayudará a nuestros estudiantes a tener éxito en su camino hacia una educación superior y en su vida en general.
