Before attempting the quiz you may want to review relevant Mathematical content. The quiz covers 6 main areas

• Arithmetic, Indices and Logarithms

• Algebra and Equations

• Probability and Statistics

• Geometry

• Measurement and Trigonometry

• Functions and Relations.

It is expected you are well versed in Stage 5 Mathematics (5.3) with knowledge of Stage 6 Mathematics Advanced recommended.

In order to prepare you may which to look at resources available for free at Openstax.org and/or Open textbook library - see links below (although these texts may be more useful once enrolled in the degree).

For free online high school mathematics text please see Open Textbooks - Siyavula (link provided below) - we would recommend looking at the Year 10, 11 and 12 texts to cover the relevant material, Please note these books do not align with the Australian curriculum but are provided as resource material in order to prepare for the quiz. Not all topic may be covered in the link provided (e.g. logarithms), for additional resources please look at the AMSI Schools Times Modules website (link below). All the above material (and links given below) are free-to-access resources.

Please note that there may be additional resources online which will incur a subscription fee (e.g. Class Mathematics). These sites do provide excellent resources yet the links provided below as well as resources which can be accessed at public libraries within Australia (Excel guides etc) are sufficient as preparation for the quiz.

If you undertake the Mathematics Retraining Program at The University of Newcastle you will be expected to purchase set texts which will be used across a number of courses. You will be advised of the texts once enrolled, you are not required to purchase any texts prior to this or for this quiz. In 2022 the text used are shown in the document below.
