Math CAMPPP HOME

This week (August 5-9, 2013) there will be a blend of regional and cross-regional breakouts which will explore facilitation skills and knowledge for mathematics professional learning as well as a variety of models, tools and resources. Stay tuned for details!


This week there were three breakouts (K-4; 4-8; 9-12) and all three breakouts focused on teaching and learning fractions with an emphasis on representing, ordering, and comparing. Plenary sessions included math content, reasons why one struggles, supporting students with learning disabilities, and assessment. This link includes the Math Trail activity.

This week there were five breakouts: K-4, 3-6, 5-8, 7-10, 9-12. Each breakout focused on teaching and learning algebraic thinking and proportional reasoning. This link includes the Geo-caching activity.

This week there were five breakouts: K-4, 3-6, 5-8, 7-10, 9-12. Each breakout focused on teaching and learning proportional reasoning with a focus on parallel tasks, open questions and big ideas. This link includes the Math Race activity.

These three day sessions were held in multiple regions of the province throughout the 2010-2011 school year to support board and school leaders in improving student achievement in mathematics.

This week there were four breakouts: Patterning to Algebraic Reasoning (Gr. 7-9); Linear Relations (8-10); Quadratic Relations (10-11); Trigonometric Relations (11-12). Plenary sessions focused on open questions, parallel tasks and the big ideas for Algebraic Reasoning. Also this year were Focused Conversations for Critical Friends -- resources for working with colleagues in a collaborative relationship.

In order to expand the opportunity for professional learning, Summer Institutes adapted from the 2009 Math CAMPPP sessions were offered regionally across the province.

This week (the first!) there were four breakouts: Effective Uses of Manipulatives and Technology; Teaching through the Mathematics Processes; Functions-based Curriculum; Consistency and Alignment of Assessments of Learning.

Plenary sessions focused on differentiating instruction for student success and building a collective thinkpad (Ontario Bansho).
