Online homework will be done using WebAssign. WebAssign can be accessed from within TritonEd under "Tools".
If you enrolled after the first day of classes, it might take a day or two before you make it into the system.
Access Codes: To get an access code for WebAssign, you can either (1) purchase the textbook from the UCSD Bookstore, which comes bundled with a multi-term WebAssign access code, or (2) purchase ELECTRONIC ONLY access from the WebAssign website (after first logging in through TritonEd). If you already have a multi-term access code (because you took Math 20A last quarter, for example) then you may use the same code. If it does not work automatically, you may need to contact Customer Support.
Logging In: Log into WebAssign from TritonEd. Select "Access WebAssign" either directly from the course menu or by first selecting "Tools". The first time you access WebAssign for this class, you will be asked to login to a Cengage account if you have one, or to create a Cengage account if you do not already have one. (Cengage is the company that owns WebAssign.) Normally, you will only have to log into your Cengage account the first time you access WebAssign for a course. (If you take another class using WebAssign, you should link it to the same Cengage account.)
For subsequent logins, you can either login to TritonEd and select "Access WebAssign", or you can login with your Cengage account at www.webassign.net. The top right corner of the WebAssign screen should show your account as "Welcome, username::app-173@ucsd" rather than "username@ucsd.edu". When you logout of WebAssign, it goes to WebAssign's direct login screen, instead of bringing you back to TritonEd. Just close the window.
Trouble Logging In: If you have trouble logging into WebAssign, contact WebAssign Student Support
Due dates: Typically (with some adjustments for the beginning of the quarter) homework will be assigned for each lecture, and due by class time (ie 5pm) 1 week later. Please check WebAssign regularly to stay apprised of due dates.
Attempts: On WebAssign you are allowed 100 attempts per problem (which is essentially unlimited) with no penalty for wrong answers, unless the question is multiple choice, in which case you are allowed a number of attempts equal to half the number of answer choices (rounded up for questions with an odd number of choices).
Scoring: Each homework problem is worth the same as any other, namely 1 homework point (with some possible exceptions for multi-part problems). Your homework percentage will be computed out of the total number of (graded) homework points.
Late Submissions: It is possible to request an automatic extension of the due date, but the maximum score on late submissions goes down 25% for each day they are late. This penalty applies only to exercises submitted after the due date and not to those already submitted before the due date.
Homework Zero (Review) (Not graded, No due date)
Reading: Sections 5.2-5.5. These sections were covered in Math 20A, and consequently this is review. Mathematics builds on previous concepts, and without a good understanding of these sections, you will struggle with the remainder of the course.
Most of the following problems are the textbook problems that are also on WebAssign and they are listed here for your convenience. There are additional problems available only on WebAssign and not appearing here. See WebAssign for due dates.
