Below I have an overview of what our course will look like.
This semester you will be actively engaged in activities and working on concepts of Statistics with your classmates. Our class time will involve learning new ideas, practicing those ideas in groups, and applying them with real-world data. I will be guiding these activities and discussions but will not always be lecturing.
Our class will in person in North Room 101 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 - 9:00 am and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 am to 9:50am. If you have not been on campus, here is a campus map. North is building 18 on the map.
Many of your assignments and in-class activities will be done in groups. We will have different groups throughout the semester. Please be prepared to participate in our class.
Our class does not have a traditional textbook. There is a workbook that you will be working through in class. This semester the campus is providing all books free of cost, including our workbook!
Most of our assignments will be submitted through Canvas. In addition to your workbook, there are a full set of readings/notes on Canvas. You will read one page of notes and then answer a few homework questions directly after. Once you complete a module, there will be a quiz on that material.
Our course will not have traditional exams! There will instead be mini-exams (quizzes!) that you complete at your own pace. More information is in the grading section.
We will be using StatCrunch, an online stats software, in our course. Like our workbook, the campus is going to be providing your StatCrunch access for free!
StatCrunch works through your web browser and should work well on any laptop, computer, or Chromebook. It may not work well on mobile devices. You can check out a Chromebook from the Library for the semester.
