Below we list successes of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. These accomplishments have helped form the reputation of UNCG as a research institution and would not have been possible without our thriving graduate programs.
Students are my research collaborators and friends. We often form teams of PhD students, master’s students, and undergraduates to work on a project. I love to see undergraduates experience the excitement of discovery. They often do not get this adventure in their classes. -- Ratnasingham Shivaji, Graduate Program Director
The department maintains a vibrant research program. From 2015 to 2020, our faculty has published 284 journal articles at an average of 47 articles per year. In 2023 alone we brought in $1.3 million in external funding.

The UNCG Summer School in Computational Number Theory took place for ten years. It drew speakers and student from all over the world enhancing UNCG's reputation as a research institution. For the graduate students at UNCG these summer school were a unique opportunity to interact with experts in their field of studies and form networks with peers from all over the world. Speakers of the UNCG Summer School in Computational Number Theory from 9 countries have written a letter of support for the graduate programs at UNCG.
