High School Internship Program
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia State University partners with Metro Atlanta high schools to offer unpaid research internships and learning experiences. Selected students are paired with a faculty mentor who will engage the student in academic research in one of many disciplines of the mathematical sciences.
At the conclusion of each internship, students will be able to recognize novel research topics, develop new ideas for research, and present their research as projects, papers, or posters.
Process: Selected applicants will be interviewed by a faculty mentor to ensure that the student and faculty member's interest align. If selected, the student and faculty member together will decide on a topic to research and how to organize their meetings.
Duration: Internships are available for single semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer), or academic year (Fall and Spring) basis.
Structure: Interns will meet with their mentor on a weekly basis virtually or in person. Mentors will ensure appropriate progress on the student's research as well as document the time according to the mentees high school requirements.
