Masaka Theatre & Film Academy (MATFA) is a community-based creative arts learning organization dedicated to discovering, nurturing, and professionalising creative talent through theatre and film. It was established in 2024 by Namugera Vincent Denis under his creatives arts company NAVIDEN PRODUCTIONS UGANDA.
MATFA was founded in response to a clear and urgent reality: Creative talent is abundant, but professional guidance is limited. Across schools and communities, many children, youth, and emerging creatives possess remarkable artistic ability, yet lack structured mentorship, ethical grounding, exposure and clear pathways into professional creative careers. So, MATFA exists to bridge this gap.
MATFA is not a traditional academic institution. We are a learning community that works directly within spaces where talent already exists (schools and communities) while making creative education accessible, practical and impactful.
Through structured creative learning, mentorship and real production exposure, MATFA supports young creatives to grow with discipline, responsibility, collaboration and strong storytelling values.
Our work focuses on developing not just talent, but character, confidence, and professional readiness.
At the heart of MATFA is a simple and deliberate purpose;
- To discover talent early, nurture it consistently, and professionalise it responsibly.
- We believe that talent identified and guided at a young age grows faster, stronger and more ethically into sustainable professional potential.
MATFA intentionally prioritises schools as the foundation of our talent development model because;
- Schools host diverse creative talents in one accessible environment,
- Young learners are easier to mentor, guide, and shape positively,
- Early discovery allows talent to grow with confidence and discipline,
- Schools provide safe and structured spaces for long-term nurturing.
By working within schools, MATFA ensures early intervention, continuity and measurable impact in creative development.
