Sensei Mateo is an Elementary physical educator specializing in Martial Arts. He has a bachelor's degree in History from New Jersey City University and a Masters in Physical Education from Canisius University. Originally from Jersey City, New Jersey, he has 26 years of martial arts experience. He holds a 6th degree black belt in Universal Warrior Arts Karate, earned under his first teacher and mentor, Grand Master Austin Wright Sr. Sensei Mateo is proficient in various martial arts styles, including Isshin-Ryu Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Jujitsu, and modern tactical self-defense.
With over 13 years of teaching experience in self-defense for individuals of all ages, Sensei Mateo is also a National Point Contact kumite Champion and an international silver medalist representing the United States Martial Arts team at the 2005 World Open Martial Arts Freedom Games Tournament in Trelawny, Jamaica, for both Continuous Kickboxing and Point Contact Traditional Karate. He is passionate about competing and teaching martial arts to youth, and is dedicated to serving as a positive influence by instilling the core values associated with martial arts.
