Gold Medal (🏅)  Award

Our invention has been awarded the Gold Medal (🏅) in the 32nd International Invention, Innovation & Technology Competition (ITEX 21), Malaysia. For me, this is a huge accomplishment.

ITEX (Team), Malaysia 

The invention was the ‘'An Efficient Mask Face Identification System'’, part of the TUBITAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) research project. The main purpose of the innovation is to develop an automated masked face recognition system based on a combination of a mask inclusion discarding technique and a deep-learning model. With the emergence of the global epidemic of COVID-19, face recognition systems have gained much attention as a non-communicable identity verification method. However, covering a significant portion of the face with a mask poses a serious challenge to conventional face recognition systems. 

The 32nd ITEX was held in hybrid mode in Malaysia on December 13-14. It is a highly prestigious and competitive international innovation award. It serves as a significant platform for innovators. According to statistics, 500 international innovations from 62 countries attend various categories. An international jury board evaluates each innovation based on five criteria: innovation, creativity, functionality, usefulness and application, market and commercial potential, and environment friendly. The best projects are recognized with gold, silver, and bronze medals following a multistage evaluation process. Our invention received special consideration from the judging panel and was awarded a gold medal.
