Was curious how you put your master channel into the arrange window so you can draw in automation? It shows up in my mixer window and I used to know how to put it in the arrange window with Logic 7, but can't seem to figure it out now...THANKS!

You can use a master fader track to create automated fade-ins and fade-outs in a session or manually control the overall signal strength. This is a key tool for any audio mixer as it not only allows you to create fade effects but it also allows you to manually control the signal output to prevent clipping and other audio distortions.

Once you start a new Pro Tools session, you will need to create tracks where audio, MIDI and video material will be recorded and/or played-back from. However, there are other track types that can serve as busses, sub-mix gropus or even master groups.

The Master Fader Track works exactly as the master fader found on an analog console, it controls the overall signal level coming out from Pro Tools, into your analog outputs, to your speakers. One of the advantages of the Pro Tools Master Fader is the fact that you can automate it for fade-in and fade-out purposes, and you can also add inserts post-fader that will affect the overall mix.

Now that the master fader has been created and its output has been properly configured, the user can start playback. The overall volume of the mix can be controlled at the master fader, just as in a console! This is how easy it is to create and configure a Master Fader Track in Pro Tools.

Suggestion: You can undock the Transport Toolbar and VU-Meter windows from the Audacity Project window and make them sticky across desktops, so they will be visible on the Audacity Project desktop as well as on the Mixer desktop, but this may work only under window systems using X.

Another thing you can do with PowerMenu and Afloat is to set transparency levels of application windows. So you could still see the waveform though the Mixer Board while moving the Mixer Board sliders.

Moving the Master Fader slider would cause all other fader sliders to move by the same amount.

For example, moving the Master Fader slider down by 3 dB would cause the gain sliders in all tracks to move down by 3 dB from their current position (very useful if a mix of multiple tracks was clipping).

Hog and Full Boar 4 feature a dedicated grand master fader on the far left side of the consolewhereas Road Hog 4, HedgeHog 4, and Hoglet 4 do not have a dedicated grand master faderand utilize the fader on master 1 as a grand master fader.

The Grand Master fader can be disabled under the misc tab of the user preferences window.Disabling the grand master fader only disables the physical fader's ability to changethe grand master level. The grand master level can always be adjusted by holding downthe grand master display on playback bar 0 and dialing the fifth main encoder wheel(fourth main encoder wheel on Road Hog 4, HedgeHog 4, and Hoglet 4).

Since the Nano Hog 4, Road Hog 4, and HedgeHog 4 consoles do not have a dedicated GrandMaster fader, master 1 is utilized as the grand master. However, it is stillpossible to assign a cuelist or scene to master 1 which will cover the grandmasterportion of the playback bar in which case master 1 and it's corresponding fader andbuttons will no longer act as a control for the Grand Master but rather as a controlfor the cuelist or scene assigned to master 1. In this case the grandmaster can beaccessed by holding down the GM key.

When the GM key is used in conjunction with master 1 on the console, it is possible for theposition of master 1's physical fader to be different from the Grand Master's actuallevel. If this happens, then when the GM key is held down the Grand Master's levelwill be shown using a blue bar and the level of master 1's physical fader shown as asmall red line. To recapture the Grand Master's level with the physical fader, movethe physical fader until it is at the same level as the blue bar; at this point thefader will take control of the Grand Master level in the normal way.

Holding the PIG key while pressing the GM key acts as a virtual DBO key. When DBO isengaged the red LED on the GM key will flash quickly, the playback bar will displayDBO in blue text, all intensity output will go to 0% (with the exception of parkedvalues), and the grand master's fader level will be ignored.

Fast Flashing: DBO is engaged and all fixture intensities will be restricted to 0% with the exceptionof parked intensities. When the DBO key is disengaged its red LED willturn off and the Grandmaster fader will regain control.

The Flash key below the Grand Master fader is anon-latching key that can be assigned in the user preferences window to send thegrand master's level to zero, to full, or to whichever value is opposing thegrandmaster's current fader position.

The 4th gen is slow and clunky as mentioned - although it does work, it won't run 5.1 if that ever materialises. There's nothing on that iPad apart from MF4 and the faders are a bit "sticky". It'll get you by I guess (as it does me) - but may be a little frustrating at times. I'd plump for a 5th gen as a minimum.

The Pearl Expert has additional master faders: Swop and Flash masters control intensity of the swop/flash buttons; Preset master controls intensity of the preset faders; Playback master controls intensity of all playbacks.

Any playback fader on the console can be assigned to act as a master fader, which allow you to set the overall intensity of various areas of the console. Different types of master fader are available:

By default, master faders are stored on the fader page where you created them and will not be accessible from other fader pages. It is often useful to set the master to have a lock or a transparent lock, which makes the master fader remain in position even when the playback page is changed. You can set this from the Options screen for the master, see Handle Paging.

On the Diamond 9, the rotary encoders at the sides of the touchscreen (or on the Arena the rotary encoders beside the Mini Screen) are very useful as speed masters or group masters - press the encoder to selectit as a master. Press the Display button below the encoders to show legends for the encoders on the screen if they are not already shown(there are 4 display modes to cycle through).

Speed or Size masters can have various scales, 0-100%, 0-200% and so on. A 0-200% scale would allow you to slow down and speed up the speed to double the programmed setting. Scales are set in normal (non-system) mode by pressing Options (or Options softkey) then press the Select button of the master.

BPM masters can have multipliers or dividers set which allows you to vary how the tapped speed relates to the effect speed. To modify the options, press Options (or Options softkey) at the top level menu then press the blue button of the BPM master.

Normally the BPM master fader sets the BPM, and the multiplier is shown below. Tapping the blue button will also set the BPM or you can enter BPM on the keypad and press the blue button of the master to set it. This is how a BPM master lookswith the BPM set by the fader:

The BPM On Fader/Multiplier on Fader option sets the master so that the fader now controls the multiplier and the BPM is set by tapping. This is how the master looks when set to Multiplier on Fader:

You can adjust Intensity, Size, Rate and BPM masters from the wheels by pressing Connect followed by the Select button of the master. This is useful for making fine adjustments to the setting of a master. For a BPM master you can also adjust "Edge Sync" which allows you to nudge the synchronisation forwards or backwards.

The Scene Master allows you to preset an output state by firing a number of playbacks or making live changes, using the visualiser to see the effects but without anything happening on stage. When you are ready for the new state, you fade the Scene Master fader to the other end of its travel and the new state is output.

To enter preset mode, press the Select button of the Scene Master (or Enter/B below the T-bar on the Diamond 9). The display above the master will show "Preset" and the background turns purple. To exit preset mode and return to normal live operation, press the Select button again (or Exit/A below the T-bar on the Diamond 9). 006ab0faaa
