Important information concerning booking your airplane ticket.
When you book your airplane ticket, take care that you are not arriving much later than 15:00 and leaving, on the way back, earlier than 12:00. Otherwise you will not be able to make it to the island the same day, or are able to reach the airport in time. Have in mind that the boat timetables can varry according to the season.
Recommended if you are traveling light (as carriages aren’t equipped with designated luggage space), the Blue Line 3 leaves the airport station (located within a 5-minute walking distance from the main airport terminal via an elevated pedestrian bridge, if you just follow the airport’s signage “To Trains”) every 36 minutes, from 06:10 am to 11:34 pm, and heads to Piraeus Station. You can expect to reach Piraeus Port in approximately 58 minutes, while a one-way metro ticket costs 9€/10$. On the other hand, the price for a return ticket is 16€/18.56$.
Useful Info: The Athens airport subway moves above the ground until it reaches Doukissis Plakentias Station. In fact, it uses the suburban train network.
More information and timetables to be found at the website of Athens Aiport.
The cheapest transportation alternative is the Bus X96 which directly connects Athens Airport to Piraeus Port. The Bus Line X96 runs 24/7 with itineraries every 20 minutes. The bus route lasts about 90 minutes under normal traffic conditions. However, during rush hours, the bus might need up to 2 hours to reach the ferry terminal. The airport bus station is situated between Exits 4 and 5 at the Arrivals level and is equipped with ticket kiosks. Alternatively, tickets are available onboard. A single bus ticket costs only 5.50€/6.38$.

Aegina (Greek: Αίγινα pronounced [ˈeʝina]) is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece in the Saronic Gulf, 27 km from Athens. It is a charming Greek island, easily reached by ferry from Athens and ideal for combining culture with seaside relaxation. The island blends rich ancient history, including iconic ruins and neoclassical heritage, with picturesque villages and beautiful beaches that appeal to all visitors.
Aegina is an island where myth and history come beautifully together. According to ancient Greek mythology, the island was named after the nymph Aegina, daughter of the river god Asopos. Zeus fell in love with her and carried her to the then-uninhabited island of Oinoni, which was later named Aegina in her honor. Their son, Aiakos, became the island’s first king and a legendary ancestor of its people. Inspired by a colony of ants, Aiakos asked Zeus to populate the island with as many people as the ants he saw; Zeus granted his wish by transforming the ants into humans, creating the Myrmidons, whose name derives from the Greek word for ant, “myrmigi.”
Beyond mythology, Aegina boasts a remarkable history dating back to the Neolithic era. The island flourished between the 7th and 5th centuries BC as a powerful naval and commercial force in the ancient Greek world. Centuries later, in 1828, Aegina briefly became the first capital of the modern Greek state under Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias. Today, its rich past remains visible in its archaeological monuments, neoclassical architecture, and enduring cultural heritage.
This magical meeting place has more than enough top-notch attractions.
