Since September 2024, I've been working on a personal project called “Infinite Opera”.
It's a turn-based tactical video game with role-playing elements, inspired by the
“Fire Emblem” and “Advance Wars” licenses.
This project is also an opportunity for me to learn a new software: Articy:Draft, as well as to improve my knowledge of blueprints in Unreal Engine 5.
Synospis :
It's been centuries since the Vokhyn empire unified the planet Oria, offering peace and protection to all peoples thanks to its ships and armies of “knights”, giant mechanical armors piloted by loyal servants of the emperor.
However, for 20 years now, Oria has been under attack from strange invaders from the farthest reaches of the galaxy, the mysterious “wraiths”, ghostly aliens controlling robotic bodies. No one knows where they come from, or the reasons for their attacks, but the empire is doing everything in its power to keep them at bay.
As the number of their attacks increases, Ren and his companions, aspiring knight pilots, are forced to cut short their training and join a weakened group of ace pilots to counter the oncoming invasion.
But on their journey, the young heroes will discover ancient secrets about their invaders and the close ties between them and the empire they thought they knew so well.
Narration :
Using Articy:Draft, I was able to quickly create templates which I used to create presentation sheets for all the characters. They include their characteristics, their background, their role in the game, their relationships, etc...
These sheets are similar to the “Character Bios” I've already covered on other projects and on my methodology page
(https://sites.google.com/view/massemin-emilien-portfolio/m%C3%A9thodologie-et-outils-narratifs).
Articy:Draft also gave me the opportunity to efficiently manage dialogues and their branches, all with quick access to character sheets, locations, factions, etc.
Gameplay :
The game is divided into two phases:
The preparation phase:
The player is informed of his upcoming missions.
The player can manage his characters, their equipment, etc.
The player can buy equipment from a merchant.
The player have access to unique dialogues between characters when they bond in combat.
The player selects the next missions and which characters will take part in them. All missions must be completed to continue.
Combat phases:
The player controls the team chosen for the mission, and must fulfill the map's objectives (protect an area, survive, eliminate all enemies, defeat a boss, etc.).
Characters and enemies move from square to square according to their movement points.
Each character has a mecha. The character's mecha type defines its effectiveness against the enemy mecha type in a “rock/paper/scissors” style (“fighter beats interceptor”, “interceptor beats gunner”, “gunner beats fighter”).
There are also special mechas with their own strengths and weaknesses (tank, psyker, hive, hacker and leader).
Leader mechas can combine with other mechas to increase their power.
By fighting together, characters bond with each other, unlocking unique dialogues during the preparation phase, as well as bonuses when they're together in battle.
