Divine Words is the project that my group developed as part of our Masters' degree.
We produced a demo in one year, on which I worked as Narrative Designer, Level Designer and Level Artist.
By working in these three areas, I was able to bring coherence between them in order to improve the player's experience.
By working on the Level Design et the Level Art, I was able to create a level from scratch : the one in our demo.
I have started by making the level design on paper, then I have created a first version of the map in graybox blockout.
The level design and the blockout have evolved over the iterations to correct the problems identified during the playtests.
For each version, I made an intensity curves to check the balance of the level, it's action phases and it's resting phases.
As I was also in charge of the narrative part, I was responsible for incorporating narrative elements into the level design.
Alongside the level design, I started to prepare the level art. Using the modular pack that our environment artist had designed, I was able to build modular houses and landmarks by creating basic structures and attaching small pieces of prefabricated buildings (called "addons"). With this method, I was able to create around twenty buildings in a short time.

Once the level design had been approved, I started to dress up the level : first the biggest assets ( landmarks, buildings, etc ... ), then I added more and more details ( terrain paint, props, foliages, decals, etc ... ).
I also used the level art to enhance the narrative part of the game - creating little scene around the city to bring life to the place - and to enhance the level design by adding assets to guide the player and help him navigate through the level.
