MassCompanion Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 18, 2026
Operator: Arthur Freitas Ramos, Florida, United States

MassCompanion helps you record Mass attendance, prayer and spiritual reflections. Your records can reveal religious beliefs and other sensitive information. You can use local features without a MassCompanion account. Supported iCloud synchronization uses your Apple account; AI assistance does not require a separate login.
Your records and Apple services
Mass check-ins can include dates, church and location names, Mass type, journal reflections and, for location-assisted check-ins, precise coordinates. The app first saves pending check-ins on your device and attempts to synchronize them through your private Apple CloudKit database. Confession event dates, parish/location and preparation status also use that private database. Synchronization can be delayed or fail when iCloud is unavailable.
Confession free-text notes, saved AI reflections, prayer intentions and their notes, offerings, Examen entries, Rosary history, favorites and settings are stored on your device. The app does not synchronize these histories through its CloudKit feature. Optional AI sharing is described below. Device or iCloud backups may include app data according to your Apple settings. The app and widget share local summaries, prayer progress and pending check-ins. Widgets, Live Activities and notifications may show prayer progress or spiritual reminders on your screen or lock screen.
Location and readings
If you choose Quick Check-In and permit location access, the app uses your location with Apple's search and geocoding services to suggest a nearby church and describe the location. A saved Quick Check-In can retain your precise latitude and longitude as part of its record, including its private CloudKit copy. Saved Quick Check-In coordinates are not automatically removed after a set period. The deletion and backup limitations below also apply to them. Manual Check-In is available without location permission. Saved favorite-parish information may also contain coordinates; opening directions passes the saved place to Apple Maps.
When readings are loaded, the app requests content from Evangelizo using the reading date, language and reading type. These requests do not automatically include your saved spiritual records. Apple, Evangelizo and other network service providers receive connection information when their services are contacted. Their handling of that information is governed by their own service terms and privacy practices.
Optional AI assistance
Before each AI submission, the app asks for permission. Continuing sends the submitted reflection text, reflection type, selected mood if any and language through MassCompanion's Azure-hosted service to Microsoft Azure OpenAI. For an Examen closing word, submitted text is assembled from that Examen's notes. The app does not automatically attach other saved histories, check-in coordinates, confession notes or your Apple account to the AI content request. Any such information you type into the submitted text is sent, so leave out identifying and confidential details. Cancelling avoids that submission. AI guidance can be mistaken and does not replace a priest or spiritual director. If you choose to share generated guidance, the system share sheet sends it to your chosen destination.
AI service operation and international processing
To protect the AI service and enforce usage limits, MassCompanion uses installation identifiers, app-verification information and usage counts. These records can distinguish an installation even without a personal account. They support authentication, security and service operation.
AI content may be processed outside your country. Microsoft’s Global processing can use regions other than the Azure resource’s location. Microsoft states that prompts and responses are not used to train foundation models without permission or instruction from its Azure customer. Microsoft may retain AI content for abuse monitoring, and flagged content may be reviewed by authorized personnel. Provider retention is separate from the app’s local storage. See Microsoft’s data-privacy and abuse-monitoring information below.
Retention, recovery and deletion
Saved records generally remain until you remove them through the available deletion controls or device storage management. The app has no single control that erases all device, cloud and provider copies. A cloud deletion requires a successful server operation. Older local or recovery copies may remain after an individual entry is deleted and may be included in backups. Deleting an entry or the app does not retract a previous AI request or automatically erase Apple backups, cloud records or Microsoft-managed copies.
The AI service is designed to process reflections without storing submitted text or generated guidance in its security and usage tables. Installation, security and usage records may remain after an AI session ends. No fixed maximum retention period is specified here. Microsoft and other platform services may retain information separately under their applicable terms and privacy practices.
Your choices and privacy requests
You can cancel AI submissions, stop making future submissions, deny location access and use Manual Check-In, manage notification and backup settings, and use the app’s available deletion controls. For privacy questions or access, correction or deletion requests, email arthur742@gmail.com. Do not include private spiritual text, passwords or account credentials. The operator will assess what can be identified and handled within systems under the operator’s control and may request limited information to locate the relevant record or confirm the request. Copies managed by Apple or Microsoft may require their own privacy controls or request channels. Applicable rights depend on your location.
Audience
MassCompanion is intended for a general audience and is not specifically directed to children. The app does not ask users to enter their age. Spiritual records and AI submissions can contain sensitive information regardless of age. A parent or guardian with a privacy concern can contact the operator without sending a child’s private spiritual content.
Changes
This policy may be updated as the app or its services change. The published policy will show its effective date.
