A rush ensued as corporations and private individuals tried to strike it rich on Omega, and thieves and outlaws followed in their wake. As space became tight, construction of processing facilities extended vertically from the asteroid, creating Omega's jellyfish-like silhouette. To prevent future collisions, the station is ringed with enormous mass-effect field generators that redirect incoming debris.

Omega is described as "the Terminus Systems' dark, twisted counterpart to the Citadel." It is a huge mining station built from the remains of a massive, irregularly shaped asteroid with twisting streets populated with homes, shops and warehouses. Omega's inhabitants are usually lawless. Territory is controlled by the strongest faction in that area and frequently changes hands, often after brutal violence. The station's current "de facto" ruler is Aria T'Loak. As of 2185, Omega has a population of 7.8 million people, composed of various different species. The station's major export is element zero.[1]

Aria begins her campaign to liberate Omega from Cerberus, having enlisted Commander Shepard in the process. Traveling aboard a captured Cerberus cruiser in order to infiltrate the Cerberus fleet surrounding the station, Aria opens her attack with a crippling blow to the fleet's flagship as her own fleet charges in via mass relay. The tables are soon turned, however, as Petrovsky reveals Omega's upgraded defenses by proceeding to inflict heavy damage on her fleet.

Deaf & Hard of Hearing Gamers: There shouldn't be any issues to be concerned about here. Subtitles are available for all dialogue, and even though the combat happens in real-time, I never found any of the audio cues to be important or beneficial. When I couldn't find enemies, it was more effective to watch where my teammates were aiming than it was to try and listen for gunfire. In my opinion, the game should be totally accessible to hearing-impaired players.

Background & aims:  Sarcopenia is characterized by the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and function, which reduces mobility and quality of life. Risk factors for sarcopenia include advanced age, physical inactivity, obesity, and chronic diseases such as cancer or rheumatoid arthritis. Omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC PUFAs) might be associated with a reduction in risk of sarcopenia due to their anti-inflammatory effects.

Methods:  We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to quantify the effects of omega-3 LC PUFAs on muscle mass, volume and function parameters. The National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE/PubMed database was searched on 9th October 2020 for randomized controlled trials that used omega-3 LC PUFAs as an intervention with muscle-related endpoints. A snowballing search to identify additional studies was completed on 23rd April 2021. The meta-analysis was conducted using meta-essentials worksheet 3. Bias was assessed using the Jadad scale.

Results:  123 studies were identified with the systematic searches. Most studies were performed in disease populations, such as cancer or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or in healthy individuals after a fatiguing exercise bout. The endpoints lean body mass, skeletal muscle mass, mid-arm muscle circumference, handgrip strength, quadriceps maximal voluntary capacity (MVC), and 1-repetition maximum chest press were selected for meta-analysis based on the number of available studies; thus 66 studies were included in the quantitative synthesis. Using a random effects model and 2-tailed p-value, there was a significant relationship in favor of omega-3 LC PUFA supplementation for lean body mass (effect size 0.27, 95%CI 0.04 to 0.51), skeletal muscle mass (effect size 0.31, 95%CI 0.01 to 0.60) and quadriceps MVC (effect size 0.47, 95%CI 0.02 to 0.93).

Conclusion:  The results indicate that there is a positive effect of omega-3 LC PUFA supplementation on overall body muscle mass and strength. Small study size and heterogeneity limit the applicability of these findings for sarcopenia prevention. Larger trials in populations at risk of sarcopenia would strengthen the evidence base.

Anima Buehler, Michael Augustynik, Felicitas Bucher, Jan Whrl, Gottfried Martin, Gunther R Schlunck, Hansjrgen Agostini, Daniel Boehringer, Gerhard Ptz, Andreas Stahl; Systemic confounders for serum patterns of omega-3- and -6-polyunsaturated fatty acids in patients with different retinal pathologies. Invest. Ophthalmol. Vis. Sci. 2016;57(12):3695.

Purpose : Omega-3-polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have a highly anti-angiogenic effect in the mouse model of oxygen-induced retinopathy (OIR). However, the clinical relevance of omega-3-PUFAs in human retinal pathologies remains unclear. The ARED 2 study found no effect of omega-3-PUFA supplementation on AMD progression. The aim of this study was to compare serum levels of omega-3- or omega-6-PUFAs between patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR), age related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and controls.

Methods : Venous blood samples were collected from 45 patients with DR, 26 with AMD, 12 with RVO and 27 controls. The lipid phase was extracted using chloroform and methanol. Lipids were analyzed using mass spectrometry. Retinal disease staging was done by indirect funduscopy, OCT and FAG where appropriate. Patient demographics and medical history including current medication and fasting state were acquired. Tukey contrasts for multiple comparisons of the mean and linear regression analysis were used for statistical analysis.

Results : Omega-6-PUVA serum levels were not different between patients with AMD, DR, RVO and controls (p>0.858). Omega-3-PUFA levels were significantly higher in AMD patients compared to patients with DR but not compared to controls (p=0.004, corrected for multiple testing). However, after correcting for possible independent confounders such as body mass index (BMI), age, sex, fasting and use of statins by linear regression analysis, no statistically significant difference remained for serum omega-3-PUFA levels. The confounders fasting and use of statins had significant effects on serum levels of various serum fatty acids (both saturated and unsaturated).

Conclusions : Significant differences in serum levels of omega-3-PUFAs can be found among patients with different types of retinal diseases. However, in our cohort these results were not robust after correction for possible confounders. These results demonstrate that serum lipid profiles need to be interpreted with caution since they are potently altered by multiple factors independent from the underlying disease. These confounders need to be identified and corrected for when serum lipid profiles are compared in clinical studies. 0852c4b9a8
