In October, our major focus will be creative writing. We will focus on the basic fundamentals and the common errors new creative writers will have. Students will be reading a handful of creative writing stories with different themes, including horror, fantasy, and historical fiction. Then, we will start by writing short stories, following different elements of story-telling in both popular media and in classic storytelling formatting. As well, some public speaking and story sharing will be included inside of the class, which will allow for students to build their confidence in speech.
Moving into our second month of school, marks our next focus: grammar! Students will start to learn about the fundamentals of what the meaning of words inside of sentences will mean, when to use specific punctuation points (colons, semicolons, quotations, hyphens, ext.) and more as we enter this long-winded focus. By the end of the month, students should grasp the basic concept of what each word in a sentence is (noun, verb, adverb, adjective, conjunction, ext.). As well, we will start using technology inside of the classroom to learn about formal technological communication.
